Paula Deen :: The "Ambassador" of Southern Food is Done

Reader Comments (3)

Hi Nicole,
Good to connect with you at Blogging While Brown. Thanks for this vid on PaulaGate. I agree, yes the network does need LOTS more diversity, and perhaps this incident will light a fire under them for just that. I mean really, people of color like to and know how to cook just like everyone else. I know that it can be difficult to find that right mix of someone with serious skills in the kitchen, personality and a look that is tv friendly, but if they really focus on finding that person (me), they will ;) There are wayyy too many people out there who fit that mold for just one person to be responsible for bringing southern/soul food to the world. Oh, don't let us forget the Neely's - they are doing their part. But again, that is too much weight for one entity to carry. So I look forward to some serious diversity on FN. That's one reason I started watching the Cooking Channel instead. I don't have much to say about PaulaGate specifically, but I do hope the outcome is a new more colorful makeover for FN.

Beautifully spoken, Nicole! Thank you for getting past the superficial and into the deeper layers of Pauladeengate.

We do not like anyone to use the n-word. It's just not necessary, and no matter the context, it still has an ugly sting. Paula is paying the price for inappropriate behavior that created an uncomfortable work environment for other people. Of course, people say and do all kinds of things in private, but once it's out and about, you have to deal with the repercussions. That's all there is to it really!
